In Feb. 2019, while dealing cocaine and heroin near a Newark public housing complex, Watson got a gun, walked toward Fred Sims, a 29-year-old Newark resident, and shot him in the head, Stephens said.
He then stood over Sims' body and shot him 10 more times before fleeing the scene.
In Dec. 2022, Watson was convicted of 10 counts, including murder and multiple weapons charges, after a jury deliberated for an hour, Stephens said.
Watson was also recently convicted of attempted murder for beating another inmate with a microwave oven and other weapons.
He is scheduled for sentencing for that conviction in September, Stephens said.
